We have some delicious new espresso for you all to enjoy- a single origin bolivia also known as:
Black Cat, Single Origin Espresso: Anjilanaka, Direct Trade Organic Bolivia
It’s a mouthful to say and certainly it’s a mouthful of damn tasty espresso goodness. Try it as a straight shot or in one of our European style drinks. It doesn’t hold up in milk like the regular Black Cat as it’s much more delicate. We pull it a little short as well (around 1.5oz versus our usual 2oz triple ristretto). We’ll try to have it on the bar in the Strip for a while so give it a go.
Our coffee roaster Intelligentsia has been turning out some great coffees for us to enjoy during the two years we’ve been open, and we were really pleased to see them move away from so many blends and really put the focus on single origin (SO) coffees.
During that time, however, our primary espresso blend has been the Black Cat. Sure we occasionally had the Kid-O Organic espresso blend, but Black Cat has always been our favorite. Now Intelli is apparently going to be roasting some of these wonderful SO’s for espresso.
The Black Cat Project is something new and exciting that Intelli has announced, and we’re pumped about what it will mean for our espresso program. If you check out the website, you’ll see in the mission that “espresso brewing is still coffee brewing and that only the best coffees can make the best espressos”. Kyle Glanville won the USBC with an espresso based on the Finca Matalapa coffee (which we will have soon), so there is definitely something to that!
Anyway, first up is the Black Cat Anjilanaka- this is such a great coffee brewed the traditional way that we can’t wait to see what it’s like as espresso. We hope to have it on the bar by next weekend after we get it in and have a chance to play around with it. This should be a regular feature and perhaps someday we’ll be able to offer a daily SO espresso. NICE!

Anjilanaka is back! This Direct Trade Organic Bolivia was one of the stars of our original brew bar menu when we debuted the Clover last summer. We’ll have it dialed in and ready to order tomorrow morning. Go to the “Menu” page to see the updated coffee list.
Tres Santos (Cauca region) is out of season, but a new crop of Huila’s Tres Santos will be here in a few months.
Decaf Sumatra is now out of season and sold out, so the Decaf Black Cat Blend will take its place as the “full bodied” decaf on our menu.
Kenya is now out of season and sold out… so sad… sniff sniff…
On the plus side, we have Intelligentsia’s new Spring Blend- Persephone and Alchemy. You can order it as Spring Blend if you prefer
New Bolivia is coming soon!
Kenya drinkers- we’re down to about 10 or so 12oz cups and then it will be sold out for the season. This coffee has been a favorite on the menu for a long time. It’s had a good run, and we’ll look forward to next season’s crop.
The Tres Santos is also winding down, but we’re good for this week.
Several new coffees will be available soon. We’ll be rolling out the Spring Blend early this week and a new Bolivia (Anjilanaka) later in the week.
