There is a lot of new “stuff” in the store, and seeing how little we’ve posted lately we need to do a quick rundown:
Coffee - we’ve updated the “Menu” portion of our website, and we’ll keep it updated so you can go there to see what coffees we’re currently offering. Keep in mind that it is not updated in real time so if someone beats you to that last cup of Kenya you’ll just have to “deal”. The lineup is heavy with African coffees right now, and that isn’t a bad thing.
Ask just about anyone here to name a favorite coffee and chances are they’ll mention a particular Kenyan or Ethiopian Coffee. The Kenya Thiriku is one of the tastiest coffees we have or will have all year, and the newly arrived Ethiopia Sidama and Yirgacheffe are stellar. These coffees are all very different and complex and have big can’t miss flavors. Also in the mix right now is a very smooth, chocolatey Mexico Oaxaca (woo-ha-ka), and a lovely Cup of Excellence placing coffee from El Salvador- Finca Malacara. While we don’t yet have it on the menu to drink, the Celebration Blend promises to be a great one as it is a blend of the African Coffees we’re serving currently.
On the espresso side, the Black Cat formula’s been tweaked with the season and currently features some of the Yirgacheffe coffee. This is a nice change of pace and we’ve been getting some really great shots with a smaller dose of coffee and a finer grind. We took some of the production roast of the Yirgacheffe and put it in the second espresso hopper- and it’s really juicy, candylike. If you want a boring shot that you need to add sugar to enjoy… this ain’t it!
So once again, there is a great diversity of flavor to be found in this lineup, and soon we’ll be adding new coffees from South America, including Peru-10 wks earlier than last year, Brazil, Bolivia and Colombia. For now, lets enjoy the great coffees we have, while we have them.
Merchandise

Airscape airtight containers
We have received our shipment of Airscape airtight containers from Planetary Design. We have a mix of colors in both 64oz and 32oz sizes. These containers keep light and air away from your coffee or tea, and are so airtight that they’re actually waterproof.
We also have back in stock Syphon coffee makers (aka Vacuum Pot). The Syphon is one of the most interesting and elaborate coffee makers- and produces a very delicious cup when brewed properly. We’ve put together a set that includes a 16oz syphon, a butane micro burner, a bamboo stirring stick, and a package of spare cloth filters to get you started.

Syphon'ing
We will soon be receiving a new shipment of electric kettles and (french) presses from Bodum, along with some hand-crank coffee grinders, pour-over coffee brewers, and more from Hario. Oh and more prepaid/gift cards, too.
So yes, we have a lot of new… stuff. Also tomorrow (Saturday) we’ll be trying out a “mystery coffee” game, but you’ll have to come to the store to play.

Update- We’re offering the Coffee Syphon as a kit- for $115 we’re including the brewer, a bamboo stir stick, the butane micro-burner, and a 4-pack of extra cloth filters.
