New menu/teas/pricing

Dear friends of 21st Street Coffee and Tea,

Since our “grand-reopening” in the Strip District 2 years ago, our coffee menu has steadily evolved.  Prices have adjusted with each new crop, and the price we pay for our Direct Trade coffee has risen.  Hand in hand with the cost increases, however, we have absolutely found increasing quality you can taste in the cup.  We are not raising prices on brewed coffee, as the price of each coffee is set when it arrives and we place it on the menu.

Espresso based drinks, however, have not changed in price during that two year period, while not only our coffee costs have risen but also the prices of paper products, milk, and just about everything else.

Over the last two years, our tea menu has remained very much the same- yawn.  As alluded to in the previous post it is getting a facelift.  Some familiar favorites remain, but several new teas have been added to our offerings.  The prices of our teas have not been adjusted in two years while the cost and quality has risen.

Starting Saturday 8/8, our new menu pricing will go into affect.  As before, we will continue to include 7% sales tax in our prices.  On Friday, 8/7, the new menu will be up but we’ll still be charging the old prices (think of it as a preview, or a menu from the future).  Friday afternoon the new teas will be available for ordering.

I considered a lengthy post regarding the value of a great cup of coffee/tea or shot of espresso, and how many businesses (including this one) base their prices on what others charge, even though those businesses serve an inferior product.  I may delve into that subject at a later time, but for now we feel that it is a small increase and we feel comfortable that you will continue to choose to visit because you enjoy the drinks we serve.  We know in today’s economy that consumers are more careful with their discretionary spending, and that is why we focus on the small/delicious drinks for which we are known best.

Thank you and see you around,

21st Street Coffee and Tea
